Programme Note

'Out of the Ordinary' was commissioned by the Opera Group in collaboration with Selfridges department store and Opera Genesis. The piece is designed to take place 'guerrilla-style' on the shop floor, and features the interaction between a shop assistant and a customer who has had enough of 'Special'. It's a sharp, witty sketch designed to attract people who may not be thinking about listening to an opera when they come across the performance.

On the day of its premiere, 8th sept 2007, Out of the Ordinary received 8 performances by the Opera Group, featuring Tenor Alexander Grove and mezzo-soprano Frances Bourne, with Andrew Sparling on clarinets and Ed Hessian on button Accordion.
